Prior to Barcelona, two editions of the Sharing Cities Summit were held in New York in 2017 and Amsterdam in 2016. The events gathered city governments from around the planet and were the starting point of the Common Declaration of the Sharing Principles and Commitments.
The Sharing Cities Summit Amsterdam 2016 hosted by Kajsa Ollongren vice mayor of Amsterdam City had the participation of 11 cities across 10 countries and 3 continents (report), and Sharing Cities Summit NYC 2017 hosted by Alicia Glen Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development of City of New York had the representation of 22 cities across 13 countries and 4 continents.
Both editions have been an amazing space for collaboration among city representatives, experts, entrepreneurs and researchers, so as to share best practices, public policies, and legislation, research. To sum up, a true testament to the global nature of the sharing economy and its impact on urban life.
